Taking a break from carnage, sorrow, and the brawling in the comments over the last two days, I offer up some mind numbing fluff by way of this week's WAOD Wagging Finger of Shame Award. This week we have co recipients: Detroit Mayor, Kwame Kilpatrick (The Hip Hop Mayor)and his chief of staff, Christine Beatty. Are y'all happy? We spit the award 50/50 between a man and a woman this time around.
Why? Not because they are liars. Folks suspected that. Not because they are adulterers. Most people "in the know" already knew that. Not because they lied about being liars and adulterers in a court of law while under oath. Those involved knew they were lying under oath. Not because they fired a public servant for , among other things, potentially revealing them as liars and adulterers. Nah uh uh.
Naw we hand this week's award out for a lack of creativity. If you are going to carry out your affair and use a Blackberry subject to open records requests, try to avoid mentioning the word "sex" , "sexually" or LOVE- come up with a code word or something for goodness sakes! His txt msg game ain't all that.
The text messages cover a range of issues, from the daily minutiae of city business to political gossip to the latest doings on "American Idol." Kilpatrick and Beatty, both 37, exchanged personal messages almost daily, including romantic notes.
"I'm madly in love with you," Kilpatrick wrote on Oct. 3, 2002.
"I hope you feel that way for a long time," Beatty answered. "In case you haven't noticed, I am madly in love with you, too!"
Other texts contain sexual content, like this exchange on April 8, 2003:
Beatty: "And, did you miss me, sexually?"[this right here was a set up for future use by her. What fully grown woman would txt that?]
Kilpatrick: "Hell yeah! You couldn't tell. I want some more. " Detroit Free Press
SO weak. So uncreative. I mean if you gone do dirt. Do it up right! And the following is why folks go to the CBC's Annual Legislative Conference in DC
In 2002, among their intimate text conversations, Kilpatrick and Christine Beatty planned a clandestine meeting in the mayor's Washington hotel room during the Congressional Black Caucus annual legislative conference. We see. WE SEE! Here is the "txt msg mack's" statement:
Beatty asked the mayor, on Sept. 12, 2002, if she could "come and lay down in your room until you get back?"
The next morning Kilpatrick, referring to his bodyguards, wrote: "They were right outside the door. They had to have heard everything."
Beatty replied: "So we are officially busted!"
"Damn that," Kilpatrick responded. "Never busted. Busted is what you see!" SOURCE
These five- and six-year-old text messages reflect a very difficult period in my personal life. It is profoundly embarrassing to have these extremely private messages now displayed in such a public manner. My wife and I worked our way through these intensely personal issues years ago. I would now ask that the public and the media respect the privacy of my wife and children and of Christine Beatty and her children at this deeply painful moment for our families.Well at least he didn't say "IIII did noooot have sexual relations with that woman!" Yeah he didn't seem to be having a "difficult" time based on those txt msgs. Will the wife finally leave him? I am betting against that happening. She's stuck with him through all of his other foolishness. Will his Mama(Congresswoman Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick) come to his defense? Probably, she's been enabling his bad behavior for a minute, why change now?
What's the big deal? Well the whole are "y'all sleeping together and did you fire this man to cover it up" thing. Well that kinda cost the Detroit taxpayers 9 MILLION dollars. He could have settled as a wise public servant would have done, but any man to carry out a clandestine affair on his city issued Blackberry was too arrogant to think he would lose. OR he didn't care as it is the city of Detroit and not Mayor Kilpatrick and his paramour that will have to pay.
OH and did I mention that Kwame is a lawyer and his paramour, Ms. Beatty is a law student...
The local prosecutor has a press conference scheduled for tomorrow. She has been inundated by calls from the public about the alleged lies. Other elected officials are being mum.
Black Women in the Eye of the Storm
It will be interesting to see how all of the Black women involved in this case behave in public. The prosecutor is a Black woman. Christine Beatty is a Black woman. The wife, God Bless her little heart, is a Black woman ( don't feel too bad for her, I hear she likes to swing baseball bats at exotic dancers- that's a whole other story) Last but not least, how will his mama, the head of the Congressional Black Caucus react in public?
Citizens of Detroit. Look at it this way... at least he wasn't caught on tape taking a hit from a crack pipe...yet. Give Kwame time.
