I got a copy of Eddie's email yesterday. I will post it later! Thanks Congressman Burgess for giving a shout out to the Afrospear!

The revolution will not be televised, it will be blogged! It is packed to the gills up in this hearing room.

Dear Mr. Media Executives:

It is becoming increasingly more evident that your thoughts are not our thoughts and neither your ways our ways. Nevertheless, we have been tolerant not to abridge your free speech or freedom of artistic expression, except to insist protecting our children from pornographic obscenities. In light to the continual misogyny of African-American women, however, we must say that you have exceeded our tolerance by this concerted encroachment upon our sense of public decency.

Who is a whore and who is a bitch? Is it not the African-American women featured in your television programming, in musical rap videos, and on movie silver-screen… half-naked, provocative, lewd, vulgar, sensual and devilishly sexy? Shame on you!

And, who are these “ugly nappy-headed ‘hoes” of which you speak?

Shame on you, again! There is only so much that we, African-Americans (and other Americans), can take.

In the past, you have portrayed our people as stupid buffoons and minstrel coons, created like courtyard jesters, for the sake of your private pleasure, clowns made for humiliation. We are always made sport of. And, by degrading and humiliating our women, you seem all the more satisfied.

The media has become a play toy to you for mass brainwashing, cloning sick and perverse minds into the image of your own. Through mass psychology via television, radio, and music industry, you have made us a joke to ourselves, as you feed the public-at- large with intoxicating daily doses of sex mania.

Is it no wonder that black women are raped and abused like dogs in such record numbers? No wonder you call her a “bitch”. How can you wash your hand of the blood of the crime when, in fact, it is a Frankenstein of your own making?

Time out for our pleading for more decency and uplifting programming, lest we be further accused of Puritanism. Rather, we endorse the mission of Association of National Advertisers’ Family Friendly Programming Forum to implement more “family friendly programming”. And, we will use our collective powers to negatively impact the profitability of those companies who cross the line.

Gentlemen, assuming that none of you are God, you must be made accountability to the public and brought back to the realization your social responsibility in shaping the minds and values of our youth.

Y'all send Representative Pitts a thank you letter. He is the first one to point out that what people see hear and observe affects how they and others behave.

Heck we are over an hour in and the congresspeople are STILL talking. Couldn't they all just STIPULATE that they A) aren't in favor of Censorship and B) Folks can get a V-chip.

I am going to start a drinking game for each time they say "slippery slope" or "censorship".

Friday Week In Review: What Black Bloggers are Talking About, Hip Hop, Hearings,Read a Book,Juanita Bynum, Eddie Griff-Look Mama! I won an Award!

I've decided to make Friday's post a "week in review" post and cover what we already talked about on WAOD this week as well as doing our very popular "What Other Black Bloggers are Saying" on a regular basis. Here we go... as always let me know what you think.

• We started off the week praising the work of Bridget Gray, if you haven't heard this, you should.
• Content Black Woman muddled up my plans to ignore BET until January and asked if there was anything we could do to protect Black children? I responded, yes, give up cable and satellite completely to avoid giving Viacom your cable subscriber fees. Just try it for 381 days, the length of the Montgomery bus boycott.
• Congress is holding hearings where the CEOs of Viacom, Warner, and Universal music may be asked questions, but upon hearing that Master P is the only known witness, one has to wonder if this will be just a dog and pony show. WAOD readers are planning to attend if it goes ahead on September 25th
• Juanita Bynum finally came out of hiding to speak about her husband, Bishop Tommy " The Hit Man Weeks". She still loves him y'all. The Devil is still planning to sue Bishop Weeks for slander. MoKelly has been all over this and TD Jakes! So has our Guest Contributor, Content Black Woman. Renita J. Weems also weighs in on "The New Face of Domestic Violence" over at Something Within.
• Black Enterprise decided to try to juggle rattle snakes while riding a unicycle and invited Eddie Griffin to their swanky corporate golf retreat... Guess what happened? Eddie bit them again, and again, and again. I can't even blame Eddie. Black Enterprise knew who and what he was when they hired him. More as well at Hybrid Nation. Read Black Enterprises' original press release where they were more than happy to promote Eddie's performance. What happened Earl Graves?Well according to reckless driver, Roland Martin, Black Enterprise is claiming that Eddie "promised" to do a clean show in his contract. My point is if you got to get a dayum contract provision for a clean show then you got the wrong comedian. What a weak explanation. You knew who you were dealing with BE. PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY. Remember that now.
  
• The Black Blogosphere had some serious fun this week with the announcement of the winners of the Black Weblog Awards.

And Somebody knock moi over with a feather! Somebody went and nominated WAOD for an award without my knowledge and they gave us two awards one was "Blog of the Year" this was a fun distraction from our usual gloom and doom. I needed that diversion.

Don't forget about Dunbar Village, we are still on the case and Symphony over at Essential Presence has her ear to the ground. West Palm Beach is Still engaged in FOOLISHNESS, but that will change. Despite approving 40 MILLION DOLLARS to build a tourist promanade, they have run out of money for security patrols in Dunbar Village. Sweet Jesus. Just. Just. Take the wheel!
