Dunbar Village Video:"Answer the Call"

To follow up on our last video "Crickets " here is the latest Dunbar Village video entitled "Answer the Call" - Pointing out the NAACP's hypocrisy in their handling of the Dunbar Village gang rape. I have already thought about the concept for the next one. It involves a blue screen a megaphone shaped spaceship and Al Sharpton in a Star Fleet uniform. Let me know what you think.

In June of 2007, a horrific crime against nature and humanity happened in a place called Dunbar Village in West Palm Beach, FL. A single Black mother and her child were brutally attacked for three hours when teen African American teens invaded her home because she had reported "littering" around her apartment. They tortured and raped the woman and her son for three hours. Not a single neighbor came to their aid. The complex had no security despite a ridiculously high crime rate, the local government had ignore security issues while building luxury office buildings on the nice side of town, law enforcement wasn't sufficient...in other words, these poor Black women and children were left to rot and die.

When a group of concerned citizens contacted various African American leaders about the conditions at Dunbar Village, not a single on responded publicly. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People said that they would not become involved because Black on Black crime was not a part of their mission, yet 7 months later, the NAACP came out for the first time in the case, but not to speak about inhumane living conditions and out of control crime, but to call for the release of the four suspected gang rapists despite the sadistic nature of the crime. They didn't offer a single legal reason for the release and didn't comment on whether releasing the suspects would place the community or the victim in imminent peril.

The perpetrators of Black on Black crime are not the only ones that need justice, the victims of Black on Black crime need justice too!

Feel free to forward this video on to your local and state chapter of the NAACP. The world needs to know about their unconscionable behavior in West Palm Beach

Al Sharpton Wants Rapists and Torturers Roaming Your Neighborhood---NAACP and Sharpton Get Into It at Press Conference

“Nobody came for us,” the woman, 35, said in the interview with WPTV. “Nobody even called the police for us.”
Victim of the Dunbar Village gang rape. Describing her neighbors' response immediately following the attack. (SOURCE)

"Our kids are incarcerated, they can't even get a bond and it's unconscionable what is happening." Maude Ford Lee, president of the West Palm Beach Chapter of the NAACP

The injustice Maude is talking about is that the State of Florida has recognized that individuals charged with a horrific rape and torture who come from a community that ignores rapes and tortures while the are in progress and then does not work with law enforcement to capture the rapists and torturers are IN JAIL... WHERE THEY BELONG! I won't relay the horrors of the facts about Dunbar Village, you can read about them here.

NAACP's "MISSION"

Maude Ford Lee, president of the West Palm Beach chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, said she hoped Sharpton's presence would help expose the "injustice."
Now I believe the official word from the NAAC(m)P - National Association for the Advancement of Colored people back in August , we asked them why they wouldn't speak out on Dunbar Village, they said that THEY DON'T ADDRESS BLACK ON BLACK CRIME... IT'S NOT PART OF THEIR MISSION!

So I guess their MISSION as it relates to Black on Black crime is to offer unconditional support to the Black criminal while the Black victims of crime aren't worth the trouble.

Um maybe your kids are incarcerated without bond because they are Amoral, without a conscience and an extreme danger to the community. Lets be clear. Al Sharpton and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored people want the State of Florida to release violent torturers and rapists back into the community to hunt down you and your family members because some accused rapist in a completely different case in a completely different jurisdiction in front of a completely different judge got bond.

So What If the Accused Rapists and Torturers Go Free?
And let's say these juveniles do get free. In whose custody will they be released into? Hmmm? Will they be released into the custody of the parents that raised them to rape and torture people? Where will they stay? In Dunbar Village where they terrorized the residents the place where neighbors listen to their neighbors' scream for three hours while being tortured and sit back and do nothing?

Sharpton Stumps Out of the Press Conference in a Huff When NAACP Steps on His Toe

If you want to see what an absolute joke both the NAACP and the National Action Network are. Watch this video let it go to the end and you will see the petulance displayed by a fully grown man.

Sharpton abruptly left the press conference after local attorney Richard Keith Alan, upset that questions from reporters to Sharpton were centered on the election rather than Dunbar Village, interrupted Sharpton. Sun Sentinel
He would be embarrassed if he had any shame... we know he doesn't.

Folks, what we have here is what I like to call a "teachable moment." Now mind you, Al Sharpton had no problem issuing a statement on behalf of DOGS, without any fuss, but Black women and children, *crickets*(Maybe Black Women Should Be Pit Bulls in Our Next Life ---The Hypocrisy of Russell Simmons and Rev. Al).

If you disagree with Rev. Al and the National Association of (male) Colored People-Take Time to let People Know
If you disagree with Rev. Sharpton and the National Association for the Advancement of Male Colored People, please let the local media know that there are still Black people with commons ense who actually like to be protected from violent criminals. Also, you might discuss Rev. Sharpton's and the NAACP's previous silence in this case and point out their bufoonish behavior at the press conference today.

The Universe is Mocking Me: Rev. Sharpton's Brother, Kenneth, Calls Into the WAOD Radio Show - No Blood Letting Occurred

Those of you who have followed this blog from the very beginning know that the Universe openly mocks me. I mean, literally, I make plans and vows and the Universe says "Oh really?" and then I am forced to deviate from MY plans. So yesterday was supposed to be a good news show and it was nothing but bad from the start.

First, Blog Talk Radio went crazy and the switchboard got messed up to the first 15 minutes of the show are garbage. Then I talk for about five minutes with the mute . Just DRAMA! Then I finally get it together and WHO is my first caller of the evening? Rev. Kenneth Glasgow.

Don't know who Rev. Glasgow is? Well, he's Rev. Al Sharpton's brother and Yeah, I clowned him yesterday when I said this

“We have invited everybody,” said Kenneth Glasgow, brother of the Rev. Al
Sharpton. “We are here to bring about unity.” SOURCE

Then get rid of the folks causing the disunity. Sidebar - Al Sharpton has a brother? I guess he is Sharpton's lieutenant. Bout time he appointed one.
BWHAHAHA! So anyway, I don't know that I have ever had someone that I have criticized call into the show. We had an interesting conversation. It was truly an experience. The volume on the podcast is completely out of wack, so he sounds extremely low, but if you increase your volume when he speaks you should be able to hear. WE ARE EDITING THE AUDIO TO BALANCE OUT THE VOLUME. SO COME BACK LATER TO HEAR THE EQUALIZED SHOW.

I won't give the details of the conversation because I think some of what was said could potentially be quite harmful to the case, but if you haven't listened to a single episode of the Black women's round table, you need to listen to this one. I doubt they gone let him call back in to the show. He was good natured about it all.

At the end of the day, I want justice. I want these people in jail for the rest of their natural lives. I hope we all want that and that the five ring circus that has surrounded this case get reigned in. This should not be a case about a bunch of Black men fighting for who gets to lead whose march. This woman was BRUTALLY ATTACKED. She should be the focus. No, I do not believe that you have to march side by side with Malik Shabazz to indicate your support of Megan Williams.

Merry Christmas Rev. Glasgow!! Your brother finally got his recompense, for me criticizing him for half the year, my GOOD NEWS CHRISTMAS SPECIAL went all wild and wacky! I told Y'all Tiny Tot was going to put a root on me.

If you want to learn more about Rev. Glasgow's organization, it is called The Ordinary People Society.Do try to be nice if you take it upon yourself to contact the man.

Hypocrisy Watch: Rev. Sharpton, -Megan Williams Case May Be In Jeopardy

On December 19, 2007, Rev. Al Sharpton said the following:

"If the federal government can intervene to protect dogs from Michael Vick in Virginia then they can do something to protect Megan Williams in West Virginia," SOURCE
Hmmm? On August 6, 2007 Rev. Al said the following:
The recent media spotlight on dog-fighting reminds us of society's callous disregard for the suffering of animals and disrespect for sentient beings...Every animal has the right to live without fear and pain. It is our job to do whatever we can to ensure this basic right for all animals, and we intend to do just that! Let's give law enforcement and animal welfare professionals, who are on the front lines of battling violence and cruelty in every form, our active support in their quest to elevate our society..Hurting animals for human pleasure or gain is despicable. Cruelty is just plain wrong. "Maybe Black Women Should Be Pitt Bulls in Our Next Lifetime"

Does PETA know about this latest statement? Now I have been saying for MONTHS that it is ridiculous that so many Black leaders tripped over themselves A) defending a multimillionaire criminal and B)speaking out on behalf of dogs while ignoring the plight of Black women who are victims of horrific acts of torture. In fact, I think I have used the Michael Vick story to contrast Rev. Al's silence on a number of occasions so this quote just jumped out at me. The man is a genius. If you can't beat an argument or your critics, coopt it. I just hope that AP reporter never discovers GOOGLE.

Prepare Yourselves

Hmmm. Y'all know I keep up with the Megan Williams case, but I try not to post on the lunacy everyday because it's sad to watch. Now those of youwho have been anywhere near a courthouse have probably been going out of your minds considering the possibility that in their quest to get the hate crimes designation, they might jeopardize the entire case at this point. You have the DA saying PUBLICLY that HE can't tell that thi is a hate crime. Tell me how he can look a jury in the eye at this point and say they should find the defendants guilty beyond a reasonable doubt when the prosecutor has said publicly HE has doubts. LAUGHABLE. Even if this was a hate crime, I think it qualifies, how in the heck could you get a conviction?

Now typically in a high profile case with an abundance of media attention, it is the defense team crying about the affect of the publicity on the potential jury and petitioning for a change of venue. Have you noticed how quiet the defense team in this case has been? They are in ALT!

He[Prosecutor in the Megan Williams case] thinks the prior relationship will make a difference with a Logan County jury, and that he is better off not dealing with racial motivations, and instead concentrate on the kidnapping and first-degree assault charges. SOURCE

“There was a great deal of sympathy for her in Logan County and from Logan residents. But after that [Nov. 3] rally, I heard comments in the public by people in Logan County and Charleston. It almost seemed to be a shift in sympathy or a lessening of sympathy because of the way the rally took place,’’ Megan Williams Prosecutor
Read between the lines people! I think he knows it is a hate (bias) crime too. What he is saying is he can't get a conviction for a hate crime out of Logan County so he' going for what he thinks is the surest bet which carries the longer sentence. Does anyone know if they added the hate crimes charges which would carry 10 years whether they would run consecutively or concurrently?

“I hope that this case is tried in Kanawha County. I’m not comfortable with it being tried in Logan County at all. I prefer it be tried in Charleston. I think the defendants have too much sympathy in Logan County,” Shabazz said.
Sorry attorney Shabazz, I don't think that is the way it works. All of the constitutional protections in the constitution are aimed at protecting the criminals from the state, not the other way around. Maybe you skipped that day in class. The criminal justice system is based on giving the criminal EVERY benefit not the victims. Once you get a conviction, then the victim comes into play. Find me a judge that is going to say "I hereby grant this change of venue to increase the possibility that the defendant will be convicted!"

This was a doozy of a case and everyday, this circus has to give the defense hope. A) The potential jury pool is getting ticked off, B) the prosecutor has basically said publicly that HE can't determine if this is a hate crime( tell me how a jury is supposed to believe him when he asks them to find beyond a reasonable doubt that this constituted a hate crime when even he has stated publicly he has doubts!) and C)The prosecution's star witness has retold her story in public on multiple occasions and has received money gifts and trips which I am certain a defense attorney is going to want to ask her about - TRY 6 defense attorneys. Because you realize now that all 6 may take the case to trial. All each has to do is point the finger at the other 5. I hope I am wrong. Seriously, I hope I am wrong. Anybody saying "It ain't possible for them to walk!" Clearly didn't grow up in the south. Yes, it is possible and it becomes more and more possible as additional rings are added to this circus. They don't have to beat all the charges, just the most severe of them.

Now NONE of these things SHOULD affect Megan Williams being able to obtain justice, but we are dealing with human beings, the margin for error is HUGE. As I have told people over and over again- "The law and common sense have nothing to do with each other."

Men Beahving BAAAAADLY

In addition, the sniping between the MEN in this case is an embarrassment and a sign that the Civil Rights Industrial Complex has truly lost its ever loving mind. Sharpton is calling local preachers cowards and telling folks they aren't worthy to be pastors in their churches....

"Any public official or preacher who can't put the pain of his people above the politics of leaders is not fit to be a politician or a preacher," Sharpton said. Associated Press

UM where exactly is Rev. Sharpton's congregation located? I forget. Somebody help me find it on a map. I'm geographically challenged. Where exactly is NOWHERE?

Thank God This Crew Didn't Show Up in West Palm Beach!

There is an old saying "You can't always get what you want, but you get what you need." Y'all remember how I have been throwing a fit because these folks have been ignoring some pretty horrific Black on Black crimes? Can y'all imagine if these folks ever made it down to West Palm Beach Florida? *Shutters*

The Universe has been working on me for a minute. On more than one occasion, watching this circus-like atmosphere that has developed in West Virginia, I've said "Thank God, these people stayed far far away from West Palm Beach." From outward signs, the Dunbar Village prosecution is rolling along, although locals are upset that the first plea deal only garnered 20 years. The family has been protected. The prosecutors seem to know what they are doing (knock on wood).

On the other hand, there are STILL hundreds of women and children living in unsafe and inhumane living conditions. Black women and girls are still being attacked in south Florida. Rev. Al isn't flying down on his private jet to hold a rally for them and we all ought to give thanks. Instead a group of WAOD readers and bloggers are headed down to Dunbar Village in January to help residents help themselves. A truly impressive group of young Black women and men. Some you've heard of, others you have not. We'll have more details after the holidays.

Megan Williams Update: Three Ring Circus Adds Fourth Ring

Symphony is on hiatus this week ( girl stay off this internet and hit those books), but she sent me this link with an update in the Megan Williams case out of West Virginia.

Now for a hot minute, we've been asking who is looking out for Megan. In out last update, the prosecutor in the case was asking for a court appointed guardian for Megan because they continued to have her give media interviews recounting the facts in the case, a HUGE problem come trial time because I can promise you the defense attorneys are reading and watching every word.

Prosecutor Backs Off of Request for Guardian

Well the prosecutor backed off of his motion to have a guardian appointed ( I don't think he should have) since the family has agreed to not do any additional interviews, but this was not before Megan taped a show with Montel Williams where he promised to help Megan get her GED, give her a laptop computer, and contribute to a fund so she could attend college. SOURCE. The defense team has to be loving this.

Al Sharpton to Rally in Charleston, West Virginia

Now the last time there was a Megan Williams rally, he was announced, but did not show. Well Malik Shabazz wanted to guarantee that the good Rev. Shows up this time so he made Sharpton a keynote speaker:
On Dec. 18, Rev. Sharpton and I will be in Charleston, and well be co-keynoting a rally at First Baptist Church for Megan Williams, Shabazz said, assuring that unlike the Nov. 3rd march and rally at the State Capitol when Sharpton, who was billed to speak but did not show, will appear this time.SOURCE
If this wasn't so tragic, it would be funny. So are they saying Sharpton didn't appear because he didn't get top billing? I'm confused? Actually I am not.

Local DA and State Attorney General Battle over Who Will Prosecute Case

I've been willing to give the local prosecutor the benefit of the doubt up til' now, but this was just a bonehead move. The local DA asked for an official opinion from the AG's office as to whether the alleged acts committed against Megan fell under the WV hate crimes laws.
However the Logan County prosecutor has been noncommittal on the hate crimes issue, particularly after federal authorities refused to be involved.

Abraham, in a move many saw as opting for political cover, instead formally asked the state Attorney Generals Office for a legal opinion on whether West Virginias hate crimes statute applied in the Williams case.

Abraham said if he decides to apply the charges, the attorney generals opinion would hold more weight in court.
Now this was a blatant attempt to get political cover from the AG's office and an abdication of prosecutorial discretion so the local DA deserves to be dinged for this. The AG wisely told the local DA. "You know the law, interpret it ya' dadgum self":
But in a move that surprised, angered and embarrassed Abraham, state AG Darrell McGraw refused to issue an opinion, saying that the Logan prosecutor knows the law and is qualified to make his own decisions.

"Mr. Abraham is trying to avoid making the political, tough decision," a spokesperson for AG McGraw told The Charleston Gazette. "We have no beef with the prosecutor in Logan County. But it is not our role to do what he has asked. It's his role. ... We have many times been involved with controversial issues."

"He is as capable of making the determination of what the law is as the attorney general in this context," the AGs spokesperson continued. "He is a lawyer and he is an elected official. "He has to make those difficult decisions and not put it on the Attorney Generals Office."

A furious Abraham, who got the bad news in what he called a "half-assed letter,".
SMH. I agree with the AG on this one. You went to law school just like he did. Criminal law is actually ( TO ME) one of the most straight forward areas of practice. You either got the elements or you don't.

Megan's Spokesperson Upset that the NAACP Isn't Publicly Supporting Him- Welcome to the Club Buddy

On this one I have to side with the NAACP and the Black Ministerial Alliance. They recognize foolishness when they see it walking through the door and they know more about local political realities than Shabazz, a lawyer, who sees nothing wrong with repeatedly having the prosecution's star witness tell her story over and over again:
Beyond the handful of local Black leaders who stood with Megan Williams during the Nov. 3rd march and rally at the state Capitol, Shabazz says he hasn't heard from the local or state NAACP, or the Black Ministerial Alliance, two of the major groups who opposed his involvement in the case. Given the current controversy concerning the case, Shabazz says the local leadership needs to understand that now, more than ever, this is all about getting justice for Megan Williams, and nothing else[IS IT? You sure it is not about YOU?]. "They clearly see that there are issues around this case they need to stand up for," Shabazz said, "whether they choose to stand with me or not." SOURCE

Oh welcome to the club, you'll get over it!

This Is Pitiful

This whole sordid affair is just pitiful. You got Black ministers battling. Al Sharpton refusing to show up in WV unless he is the star attraction. Megan going on a press tour and being lavished with gifts that she WILL be cross examined on. Not to mention the jury pool is being tainted by all of this foolishness. The local DA is clearly letting politics enter into his case with this unnecessary request for political cover from the AG and now they are battling over the case and then to top it off, you got Shabazz trying to evoke sympathy because the other members of the CRIC (civil rights industrial complex) don't want to play in his sandbox. Can somebody tell me what the SECOND rally is for again other than irritating the HELL out of the jury pool? The jury pool, y'all remember them? The folks that will ultimately decide this case no matter what the defendants are charged with.

You can read our previous Megan Williams coverage here.

SIDEBAR UPDATE: GINA GETS CHEWED OUT BY A NATIONAL ACTION NETWORK REPRESENTATIVE

BY: ATTORNEYMOM, WAOD CONTRIBUTOR

I just received a call from Miss Gina whereby she advised me that she was just chewed out by Tamika Mallory, Director of the Decency Initiative for the National Action Network. Miss Mallory feels that Gina is using her voice to “bash’ the National Action Network.

Gina further stated that Miss Mallory feels that there can be no resolution between them because Tamika Mallory does not like Gina’s tone.

Gina would like to know why Miss Mallory is not calling Laurel Robinson, Executive Director of West Palm Beach Housing Authority and asking her why she refuses to provide adequate security to protect the residence of Dunbar Village.

For months now, Gina has been blogging on the moral indifference demonstrated by our prominent Black leaders when it comes to the Dunbar Village Rape and other crimes committed by blacks against other blacks. She attempted to get the Rev. Al Sharpton, NAACP and others to exhibit the same moral outrage toward the Dunbar Village rapists as they have shown toward the crimes committed by white perpetrators against blacks.

To date, there has only been continued silence and indifference.

I feel that the following statement contained in Gina’s post below says it best:

"Who is speaking for the victims of the far more common and lethal black on black violence?"

As per famed Rapper Kool Moe Dee, "I never ran from the Klu Klux Klan
and I shouldn't have to run from a black man."

Selah.

Our favorite Pompadoured Precha' Wants Isiah Thomas to Appoligize- Or NAN will Picket Knicks Games!- Should WAOD Readers Picket Sharpton's Picket?

Yesterday somebody said in the comments that the Rev. Al's criticism of Isiah Thomas wasn't getting press. It might not be getting a lot of cable coverage, but it is getting major newsprint.

“I told Mr. Thomas that our position had nothing to do with the person using the language,” Sharpton . “We cannot have double standards for sexism and racism.”SOURCE
*crickets chirp* This is too easy. *crickets chirp*

Consistency is not our favorite pompadoured precha's strong point, but he did say something. So do we give him credit for that? *crickets chirp* Average Bro feels conflicted as well as he sets out with insightful analysis in his post, "Rebb'n Al v Freaky Zeke"

Again, somebody needs to say something, but maybe the good Reverend just isn't the one.

The paradox of Al Sharpton (and Jesse too) is a dual edged sword. It's like discovering a $100 in the urinal of a public restroom. Sure, you'll feel good about spending it, but your hands will stink like hell long afterward. Such is the case with Sharpton. Average Bro

See. Average Bro Knows he is wrong for that analogy right there. BWAUAHAHA! *moi goes to sit the WAOD corna'* That should not be funny. Average Bro also points out that there was an article intimating that Rev. Al sought out romantic relationships with his female subordinates. I did not know that. I don't know why I thought Rev. Al had been married to the same woman for like 35 years. Y'all have to go read that Village Voice piece JUST to look at the illustration of Al Sharpton. I about fell out of my chair.
The Village Voice story says that Al Sharpton basically took out Jesse Jackson with that whole "Bringing Yo Baby Mama to the White House scandal." I did not know all of this. No wonder they hate each other's guts. I thought it was just plain old ordinary playa hating, not all this Machiavellian intrigue and what not. But then again, I guess the position of leader of all of Black America ( as far as the news industrial complex is concerned) is a prize worth engaging in foolishness to obtain.

Prepare to squirm as this reporter tries to make the tenuous case for a clandestine "relationship" between Sharpton and an aide. EEW. Just eew. It ends up being a string of innuendo and text messages and anonymous tips. There is a lot of smoke, but no fire. It actually ends up reading like something Rita Croby would write for the national Enquirer. I was a tad bit disappointed in the lack of hard evidence. The main source is a disgruntled husband. Until somebody hows me some pictures, I elect to refuse to believe it. Mind bleach please. ( y'all please if there ARE pictures, I DO NOT WANT TO KNOW!) Thanks Average Bro for the link to this article.

I am still wondering why after two months he hasn't issued a single statement about Dunbar Village, but I guess Isiah is easier to deal with than a bunch of poor Black folks being shuffled to an enclave in south Florida and left to rot. *crickets chirp*

Random thought....Um, aren't most Knicks tickets purchased prior to the actual game so would picketing outside Knicks stadium deter folks who already purchased tickets? My memory is foggy, but isn't there an underground entrance to the Garden so would any of the fans actually see the National Action Network pickets? If they do picket, is Rev. Al going to go inside after tip off to sit in a luxury box?

I actually don't know that Isiah CAN apologize if the case is going to be appealed.

Um Rev. Al, when can we expect the NAN to march on the Florida Governor's Mansion or on the City of West Palm Beach aka "Dysfunction Junction?" I mean the weather in south Florida is likely going to be much warmer than NYC. *Moi begins eyeing her watch while still seated in the WAOD corna'*

What do you think of Rev. Al's comments and his demand for an apology. I am soooo soooo trying to give my favorite pompadoured precha' the benefit of ze' doubt, but I am sure that the readership will share their candid impressions. *moi leaves the corna' goes over and sits on the WAOD stoop and waits for some interesting comments to walk by*

Wonderful idea just popped into my head while I was sitting on the stoop waiting on comments. I know I have a New York/NJ/PA contingent of readers. I think it would be awesome if some folks got together and picketed Rev. Al for his silence on Dunbar Village as he picketed the Knicks and then Debra Lee could show up and picket us as we picketed Rev. Al and so on until we have about 10,000 Black folks outside in the cold picketing each other. Okay. it is officially time to go to sleep, but it was a thought.

Where in the World is Rev. Al? Too Busy to Speak About Dunbar Village?

Rev. Al, our favorite pompadoured preacher is part of the League of the Immorally Indifference. Despite knowing about Dunbar Village and the fact that the City of West Palm Beach, FL has basically abandoned the poor Black residents and left them without police protection, he is still RADIO SILENT. He can issue a statement on behalf of dogs, but not Black women. He's busy doing other things(scroll down). and he is supposed to be the Decency Czar?

You can wish Rev. Al a very happy B-day by sending him e-mail at crisis@nationalactionnetwork.net

Or why don't you just call, wish him happy B-day and then ask him when we can expect a statement about Dunbar Village? Phone: (212) 690-3070

Or you can call RACHEL and his press office at 212-876-5444

Its only been like four months already.

Al Sharpton and David Banner in a Cage Match... Who Wins?

Just when I thought I would never laugh again after the subject matter I have been covering recently, my favorite pompadoured preacha' rides to the rescue again.

For those of you new to the blog, our original focus was the negative portrayal of African American women in popular culture, Hip Hop in particular- Hence our first T-shirt: Stop Funding Foolishness- Stop Misogyny in Music. We have digressed from that original purpose, but that's a good thing in my eyes.

Anyway, I've laid off of the Hip Hop Industrial Complex in the past month and a half or so because I was otherwise engaged battling a certain amoral television network and a certain show that shall never be named on this blog again. However, where I have left off, the good Rev. has picked up and the Hip Hop Industrial Complex is not happy and they are speaking out... and they are directing their ire at my favorite preacha, the Rev. Sharpton. Recently David Banner, young fool that he is decided to take on the Rev. Al :

The next time you see Al Sharpton, tell him I said @#*$ him and he can suck my @#*$, " an animated David Banner told SOHH.com. "I might change the name of my album from The Greatest Story Never Told to @#*$ Al Sharpton. I hate Al Sharpton. This is the kind of @#!* that I'm talking about. They're killing kids in New Jersey and all across the country and all a @#*$% got to talk about is rap lyrics? @#*$ that about they're our elders and we gotta respect them. I'm tired of this. They're like the parents, but the parents are crucifying the kids. (SOURCE)

So young, so gifted, so Black, so articulate! Joe Biden would be proud. However, this is Al Sharpton who grew up on the mean streets of NYC or thereabouts. This Man of the Cloth wasn't going to take that. Oh No he was not!

From time to time we do encounter people that have sexual fantasies about Reverend Al Sharpton, but they are always women and Crump’s proposition is a first. However, in keeping with the National Action Network’s Decency Initiative, I am sure Rev. Sharpton would not call Crump the “N” “B” or “H” word. And, despite Crump’s personal request, I am sure Reverend Sharpton would not call him a f-g–t. He would just pray for him. We at NAN are pro civil rights for everyone, even Levell Crump who has not had a banner year since his debut album in 2003. Kirsten John-Foy, a leader with Sharpton's National Action Network and the head of his Criminal Justice Initiative (SOURCE)
SNAP, they pulled out Banner's given name ( the one on the birth certificate) and er' thing. Oh. No. They. Didn't! (Yes. They. Did!)

Now Hip Hop heads, let me remind you that while he sports a relaxer, the Rev. Sharpton is no C. Delores Tucker. There will be no weeping or lawsuit filing out of the Good Rev. when you call him out of his name. You are his meal ticket right now and do not doubt that he will trample you and small children in order to creep out of the shadow of his arch nemesis the Rev. Jackson and young up starts like a certain candidate for President that will not be mentioned on this blog for the foreseeable future.

Let me also remind you that his hustlin' and camera-whoring tendencies aside, the Rev. Sharpton is no wimp and he ain't stupid either and if he has to stomp each and every rap artist into the ground to get one more dollar or one more minute in the glare of the camera lights, he will do it. So while I question his motives, I don't question his dedication to achieving his goal of world domination. In other words Hip Hop Industrial Complex, if you wanna fight in the gutter, the Rev. Al is more than happy to hop down there with cha, or atleast send out his subordinates to do it for him.

Now those of you who think that David Banner could take Rev. Al in a cage match, let me remind you that there will only be hand to hand combat. Mr. Banner and his generation are used to weapons of the firearm variety whereas the Good Rev. is probably well trained in the art of fisticuffs. Not to mention the Good Rev. served hard time in federal prison. He didn't do the Jesse Jackson, released on your own recognizance kinda protest where you never make it past the booking Sergeant's desk. Rev. Al got a prisoner number and the uniform to match courtesy of the Bureau of Federal Prisons. So the Good Rev. has done more hard time than most of these Hip Hop "artists."

Y'all know there are about 25 Hip Hop" artists" in the studio right now cranking out dis tracks about the Good Rev. That is their M.O. Like I said. Rev. Al is no C. Delores Tucker. His counter offensive was stone cold folks, he struck straight to the heart of every homophobic Hip Hop artist r by basically saying that David Banner wanted to have sexual relations with the Good Rev. OUCH! Rev. Al is not playing with y'all. You better ask somebody! (BTW. What women are having fantasies about Rev. Al?? WTH? MIND BLEACH PLEASE! Kirsten John-Foy is on crack for providing us with that visual! )

Now I thought I was going to be selling tickets to see the "Showdown in Chi-Town " now that Rev. Sharpton has expanded the Sharpton Brand and set up shop in Rev. Jackson's backyard, but alas this may be even better.

So in a cage match between ANY Hip Hop "artist" and the Good Rev, I got $20 on Rev. Al.

We'll get back to gloom and doom and man's inhumanity to wo(man) later today, but man I needed this. I was beginning to wonder if I would ever laugh again for real. I am sure some of y'all were wondering too. But thanks to Rev. Al, I hope we all realize that babies are still being born, people are still kind and compassionate, folks are still falling in love, and the ocean still laps at the shore.

DL HUGHLEY
Speaking of the Rev. Al. D.L. Hughley finally was read a portion of the statement the Good Rev. issued to us about four months ago after Sharpton Watch.... DL. Was not amused. The reporter actually posed questions I raised directly to DL which was refreshing. You will note that DL could not recite the first five words of the First Amendment that he is so dedicated to protecting. That question came straight from moi. I challenged the reporter to ask him and he did. He called WAOD - one lady with an e-mail page. BWAH! My question is this, why couldn't sisters have gotten this kind of interview out of Essence Magazine?

DUNBAR VILLAGE VICTIM'S ASSISTANCE FUND
Let me remind you that you can help the Dunbar Village victims by donating to their Victim's Assistance Fund. Read about the ease with which I was able to make my donation at a Wachovia branch in my town.

Checks can be made payable to the Dunbar Village Victim Assistance Fund-St. Ann. They can be dropped off at any Wachovia branch or mailed to: St. Ann Catholic Church, 310 N. Olive Ave., West Palm Beach, FL 33401. The church’s phone number is (561) 832-3757. (SOURCE)

11 Year Old Black Girl Raped By Up to 20 Men While Adults stood by and did.....NOTHING!

Warning: If you are already feeling lousy after reading about Dunbar Village and Newark, skip this post and return to it when you feel better.

Remember when I mentioned this crime in my post "The Five Stages of Grief?" Why the hell didn't we hear about this horror? UPDATE: OH wait, this just gets worse.

I guess all of y'all who don't believe in statutory rape are going to say that the 11 year old was just being fast, right? Hmm one of the perps pulled out the R. Kelly defense

He went to a locked bedroom in his house in the 3700 block of N. 6th St. where he heard "moaning" from inside and eventually was let into the room, where he saw "12, 13 or 14" other men and teens present. He said the girl was freely having sex with several men during the hour he was present, but another man in the room had told her not to have sex with Gurley. She eventually acquiesced, he said, at someone else's urging. The criminal complaint says that person was the 15-year-old boy who is charged.

"I thought she was a boy's girlfriend," he said.

(hmmm where have I heard THAT BEFORE)

So as long as she is a "girlfriend", sex with the underage girl is okay?

He said that he never spoke with the girl and that he didn't think about using a condom. The police officer who arrested Gurley broke the news that the girl was 11, and he later learned the girl had been born with HIV.

It wasn't just men participating in this horror, but they had a 16 year old female instigator:

[T]he girl told police she went to Gurley's house to visit the 16-year-old girl now charged in the case. That older girl suggested the victim perform sex acts with several boys in the house, the victim told police, and she did so, sometimes with more than one person at a time. Some records suggest the older girl directed the victim;

Seriously, this is utterly ridiculous! It is time to declare an end to open season on Black women and girls. Let the battle between Black folks with common sense and those without commence. We might not be victorious, but we have to at least try.

Why aren't we seeing articles on the crisis of the young Black woman? Why do we always seem to be marching on behalf of those accused of crime, but say little or ignore completely victims of crime? Is this poverty's fault again? Not trying to start nuthin', I'm just asking.

UPDATE: Well at least now we know what Rev. Sharpton has been busy doing instead of issuing a statement about crimes against black women and girls. For those who say the Rev. Does not know about Dunbar Village, one of my readers called into his show and I have exchanged e-mails with his indecency initiative chief. So he knows, he just doesn't care as much about this issue as much as he craves getting into a cat fight with a Hip hop "artist."

A Call to ARMS!

Didn't I tell y'all that something else is afoot here. Which is why the continued silence from the League of the Immorally Indifferent is so perplexing. Each day they remain silent about violent crime committed against Black folks is a day they cement their own fates due to ineffectiveness and inaction.

Over at Eurweb there is an interesting post by Ricardo Hazell called
THE SAGA CONTINUES: A CALL TO ARMS: Forget Iraq, the war for black America is at home! He is talking about his reaction to the Newark killings.

People are asking why this sort of thing happens, and that is a valid question. The answer, though simple, is a difficult one to come to grips with. The simple fact is black lives are seen as having little to no value by some black people themselves. Perhaps I should say a certain type of black person. We can talk all day about outreach programs and anti-gang units and so forth, meanwhile our children are dying and dying and dying some more.

PREACH!

I am sick of seeing Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson on TV saying how much of a shame these losses are without really doing anything about it and I'm tired of the police promising to add more patrol cars and politicians that promise to lower the urban crime rate year after year. May God forgive me for feeling this way. Again, this hatred may go away tomorrow, but today I say these people have to go by any and all means necessary!

Y'all I think he is basically saying we need to arm ourselves against the criminals and take them out since the police and politicians seem unwilling and unable to.

Earlier today I told y'all to read why what is now going on is not the usual howling at the moon about all that is wrong in the world. There is something different going on in a post-Imus world over at Why Black Women are Angry.

Maybe Black Women Should Be Pit Bulls in Our Next Life ---The Hypocrisy of Russell Simmons and Rev. Al

"The recent media spotlight on dog-fighting reminds us of society's callous disregard for the suffering of animals and disrespect for sentient beings...Every animal has the right to live without fear and pain. "
Russell Simmons and Rev. Al Sharpton on Michael Vick's dogfighting foolishness.

The full letter is located here. Everywhere you see the word "animal" replace it with "black woman in Florida"

Now wait just a dayum minute. Is that Russell Simmons, the Dean of the Russell Simmon's School of Obfuscation and Redirection? Russey " Palpatine" Simmons that won't life a pinky finger or move a vocal cord to speak out against those in the Hip Hop Industrial Complex who hate and despise Black women? Just. Just. Just. Just. (Gina walks away from the computer)

I'm still waiting on Rev Al and Jesse to issue statements about the Dunbar Village gang rape, one of the most heinous crimes committed against Black women in this country in recent memory. Russey have you sent in your check to the victim's assistance fund for this poor woman and her child? Oh you don't have the address? Here it is AGAIN.

Folks tomorrow when Rev. Al has his National Day of Outrage, we will be having a "National Day of SHAME!" To honor the moral inconsistency of our "leaders" and the Black Elite Establishment. We tripping over ourselves to speak about dogs, but breathtakingly silent about this horrific act of violence against a Black woman and her child.

You know what PETA, I agree with you "hurting animals for human pleasure or gain is despicable. Cruelty is just plain wrong." SO when can we expect PETA's donation to the victim's assistance fund? When can I expect a statement form you encouraging the residents of Dunbar Village to start assisting law enforcement with catching the remaining rapists?

Checks can be made payable to the Dunbar Village Victim Assistance Fund-St. Ann. They can be dropped off at any Wachovia branch or mailed to: St. Ann Catholic Church, 310 N. Olive Ave., West Palm Beach, FL 33401. The church’s phone number is (561) 832-3757. (SOURCE)

Dunbar Village - RAZE IT TO THE GROUND AND SALT THE EARTH SO THAT NOTHING WILL GROW THERE! - How to Help.- Where in the World are the Rev's?

“Nobody came for us,” the woman, 35, said in the interview with WPTV. “Nobody even called the police for us.”
Victim of the Dunbar Village gang rape. Describing her neighbors' response immediately following the attack. (SOURCE)

I explained in Friday's post why I didn't post about Dunbar Village, how do you articulate the horror in words? Quite frankly it depressed the hell out of me. In another post about some foolishness in Georgia, we started addressing the gang rape in Dunbar Village of a woman by 10 African American teens who in addition to repeatedly raping the woman ( FOR OVER THREE HOURS) while beating her 12 year old son made them lie naked in the bath tub together and forced the woman to perform oral sex on her own child before burning her skin and blinding her son by pouring cleaning solution on their skin and eyes.

Oh yeah, and they took cell phone pictures of their deeds and were so brazen that one of these monsters left his condom behind. Surely indicating that they thought they would get away with it. Oh yeah, and the neighbors that didn't see or hear anything and are currently not talking to police.... Well not a single living thing in this "community " of folks even bothered to offer a glass of water when this was over. This woman and her blinded son had to trudge to the hospital in the dark on their own.

Why Raze this place to the ground?
"So a lady was raped. Big deal," resident Paticiea Matlock said. "There's too much other crime happening here." ( Source)

Or maybe it should be razed to the ground for this reason alone:

Neighbors did not respond to her screams, and no one called the police. The victims ended up walking a mile to the nearest hospital afterward. (Source)

For three hours, the two say, the 35-year-old Haitian immigrant was raped and sodomized by up to 10 masked teenagers as her 12-year-old son was beaten in another room. (Source)

Or raze it to the ground because of this lovely fact about another crime by the residents of another complex less than a mile away from Dunbar Village:
A 14-year-old Mangonia Park boy has been charged with raping and robbing a 42-year-old woman only a few steps from her apartment while his friends waited and watched, some shouting "Hurry up" and "Me next." ( Source)

Or how about this tidbit:

Two of the three teenagers arrested in the Dunbar Village gang rape are related to imprisoned members of ( a gang I refuse to promote on this blog)...People in the neighborhood kind of look up to the (gang I refuse to promote)," he said. "As we lock them up, some young kids started calling themselves (name you can read for yourself in the link)...On MySpace - a social networking Web site - friends profess allegiance to the three Dunbar teenagers arrested in the rape and express hope that they will be freed. (Source)

What the HELL is going on in these housing projects in Florida and you can best be darn tooting sure that this foolishness is going to spread. All the gated communities in the world can't keep psychopaths like this out. It does not matter if you or your children are not engaged in crime and foolishness, this still can affect you. The victim kept her son on the straight and narrow, which was probably one of the reasons why she was targeted:

Dunbar Village was the only place the 35-year-old Haitian immigrant could afford on what money she got by selling Avon products or delivering phone books.

Each day, she would shower, cook for her son, braid hair for her friends, and hope for relief from her chronic backaches. She was a university student in Haiti who came here and worked in a nursing home until she fell and hurt her back.

She did not socialize with neighbors or buy the sin some of them sold.

On Sundays, she made sure her son's slacks were pressed, his tie knotted handsomely. She wore a bright smile and her best dress and drove two miles to the services in French and Creole at St. Ann Catholic Church. (SOURCE)

Watch. This editorial explains why we can expect more of the same in a neighborhood near you.

WE CAN'T LET THIS PLACE EXIST. PERIOD!

This country simply cannot let a place like this exist. We can't let a community that will ignore what surely were cries and screams emanating from that apartment with paper-thin walls . We can't let a community that had to have at least one person seen a bleeding, beaten, blinded mother and son trudging out of their apartment, but didn't lift a finger to offer a ride to the hospital or call a cab or maybe if 911 was too much of a stretch, they could have called 411. Even now, when only 3 of the 10 are in custody, that "community" from reports isn't doing much to assist law enforcement with apprehending the remaining assailants.

For those who say folks are scared, my response is, why would we let a community exist where people are so frightened for their personal health and safety that they will ignore a heinous crime in progress, not offer minimal assistance to the victims immediately following the attack, and then remain silent and not lift a finger to aid the police in capturing folks who are threats to us all.

Raze it to the ground, relocate the folks, disperse the foolishness. Just because they are poor doesn't mean we should tolerate them living in HELL on EARTH.

The single mothers and children who fill most of the apartments at Dunbar Village — a housing project on the poor, black, north side of this city — are used to nightly gunfire. They are used to theft, assault, murder and the indifference of federal and local authorities. (SOURCE)

[Female resident] is one of few Dunbar Village residents speaking openly about the attacks. Others agreed to be interviewed but would not give their names, fearing consequences. The police said many had shrunk away from their questions, a longstanding problem in the neighborhood. (Source)

Relocate them. Raze the place to the ground and let it serve as a monument that the great social experiment of packing a bunch of poor folks on top of each other and then abandoning them is a FAILURE. The public policy folks got this one WRONG. Start over, but don't let these people continue to live like this. If they don't have the initiative or wherewithal to claw themselves out out of hell, then the nation must give them a push, but we can't sit back and accept these conditions in America or anywhere else on the planet for that matter. Some of the current residents understand that Hell on Earth is no HOME at all.

Outside another unit, Calvin Jones, 71, said he would leave with his 13-year-old granddaughter this weekend. They came to Dunbar Village from Gulfport, Miss., after Hurricane Katrina, Mr. Jones said, and now they were going back — though with no home.

“If you knew that happened,” he asked, “would you stay here?” (SOURCE)

Exactly Calvin!

Where is Jesse Jackson with an offer of a college scholarship? This woman was a university student too!

Folks I feel a " Sharpton-Jackson-NAACP-Black Elite Establishment- Watch" coming on. I can feel it in my bones. I am telling you the Universe is sending signals again. Alll of them need to be clowned until they issue a press release indicating that they have made a very sizable donation to the fund listed below. E-mail me if you think you or your blog are interested. whataboutourdaughters at gmail.

How to Help
For those of you who want to know how to help this woman and her son. We can't wait on Rev. Al and Jesse to come to their aid. They're busy marching for Genarlow Wilson right now, collecting soap, and god knows what else. Oh yeah and the NAACP is busy defending Michale Vick, a multimillionaire and burying the "N" word. Anybody want to guess how much Julian Bond chipped in to this woman's Victim's Assistance Fund? The woman and her son are in hiding and need living expenses. The woman was a parishioner at Saint Ann's Church in West Palm Beach. The church has set up a fund through Wachovia Bank to help her with moving and living expenses.

(SOURCE)

They are saying that you can go to ANY Wachovia bank no matter where you live. Don't just be mad. Help another human being out. Our civic and social organizations are too busy helping out a multimillionaire professional football player who engaged in foolishness.

P.S. Why isn't this getting the Natalie Hollaway, Lacie Peterson, Chandra Levy, Elizabeth Smart, Jon Benet Ramesy, 24-hour news cycle attention until they capture each and every suspect?

Here We Go Ho' Ho' Again- Sharpton Calls out TMZ For Calling Beyonce "Roboho" - TMZ Responds That They Call lots of Women Whores

Y'all remember the "roboho" incident following the BET Music Awards. Well Rev Al and his non-news-reading staffers finally got around to commenting on it. He also took the opportunity to announce that he is going on a 20-city anti "Ho" campaign. I wish he would call out BET about Hot Ghetto Mess, but y'all know my feelings on Rev. Al. You know, let me send his people an e-mail right now.

Anyway, TMZ responded that they call everyone a whore in one form of another. As usual, the TMZ comments are chock full of racist rants.

Read it and weep.

By the way. Thanks to all of you who have purchased a T-shirt to help support the site. I only make $1 on each sale, but every little bit counts. I get a dollar whether you purchase a button or a $18 hoodie. I've added some less expensive stickers and magnets to allow people a less expensive way to support the site. We have two designs, the "Stop Funding Foolishness" design and the " Defund the War on Black Women" design. Again I thank you and let me know how CafePress treats y'all. Since people appear to like the shirts, I am considering printing them up myself, but I don't know if I am ready to go into the T-shirt business yet. Who am I kidding. I am sooo not customer service oriented. CafePress will do just fine.

"Sharpton Watch" Over - Rev. Al Responds to DL Hughley

Monday, May 21st Morning Update: Some of you may continue calling the National Action Network about this DL Hughley situation. That is your choice, but might I suggest a different use of your anytime minutes, Viacom, Mr. Hughley's new employer. DL has a new show coming out this fall on BET. You can call Viacom at (212) 258-6000 read them DL's quote and ask them if DL Hughley is the best they have to offer to America. Let me remind you that Rev. Sharpton doesn't own any networks or comedy clubs. While calling the National Action Network may make you feel better, calling Viacom may actually be a more effective use of your time, talent, and treasure ( anytime minutes). (212)-258-6000, just go ahead and save it in your cellphone. ( I called and got transferred into oblivion, so I will have to regroup after work.)

Folks Sharpton Watch is over. I got an e-mail from Tamika Mallory, Director of National Action Network Decency Initiative at 5:13 PM Friday. The following is Rev. Sharpton's statement regarding the D.L. Hughley Situation. We'll be talking more about this on the Black Women's Roundtable Saturday at noon.

It has recently come to our attention that D.L. Hughley has made
disturbing comments about the young women of the Rutgers basketball
team. Let me start by reaffirming the position of the National Action
Network. We do not accept or find humor in the denigration of women or
any other group. It does not matter whether the person making the
statement is black, white or from any other race. Nor does it matter
whether the intent of the comment is a lame attempt at humor, a racist
attack, or in the case of Mr. Hughley, an obvious attempt to create
publicity for himself. It is sad that after a very successful career in
comedy, Mr. Hughley would stoop to behavior that is disrespectful to
women as a means of self promotion. We hope that the entertainment
industry will see through this feeble attempt to gain publicity in order
to find his next job.

In Progress,

Reverend Al Sharpton, President of National Action Network & Tamika
Mallory, Director of National Action Network Decency Initiative
Yes. I know some of you will think it is not enough but if you remember ALL we asked for was ANY response to DL's comments, and we got that. It was a small victory for a blog that isn't a month old. Stay tuned for our big summer effort regarding Black Exploitation Television. Thank you to those of you who called and e-mailed and urged me along.

Update on Sharpton Watch - Day 4

I understand some of you have experienced some rude treatment by one of the people answering the telephone at the National Action Network. Reader Zabeth has some alternative contact information:

Another number in regard to the Rev. Al situation, reach out to Rachel Nordman in the media office at 212 876 5444 or email RevAlmedia@yahoo.com.

We've given him the benefit of the doubt so far. As early as May 10th, I sent an e-mail to Rev. Al. now I don't want to conclude that Rev. Al was merely using the women of Rutgers to carry out his mission of toppling Imus, but his silence on DL Hughley's comments on The Tonight Show are calling me to question his sincerity[sic].

For those of you on Sharpton Watch. Today is Day 4 of Al Sharpton officially ignoring the comments of DL Hughley on The Tonight Show regarding the women of Rutgers. Why don't you take time and use some of your anytime minutes to ask him why by calling 212-690-3070.
