I am sure many of you may be offended by the post title. Good! Consider us even! I really don't care if anyone else on the planet agrees with me... I'm too disgusted to care!
I don't have a problem with redemption. Lord knows I've found myself on a lonely Damascus Road a time or two in my lifetime, but one thing redemption requires is the truth.
What is the reward for smoking weed, drankin', making kiddie porn, turning one drunk/drugged/passed out girl into a trash receptacle for seminal fluid and making a 15-year-old into a porn star ? Well folks, your reward is a full scholarship to a prestigious university and accolades from the NAACP.
Yeah forget studying, staying out of trouble, treating other human beings with dignity and respect. No need to bother with that. You can engage in all manner of bacchanal behavior and receive rewards as long as your victim is a Black woman or girl and you manage to come in contact with "the system." Oh yes, because ain't nothing like having some constitutional protections trampled on to convert the sinner into the saint, the predator into the prey, and the idiotic, stupid, and dumb into "the boy genius." (he had a 3.949037 GPA didn’t you know?)
It appears that the Genarlow Wilson Redemption Story Arc has been completed. In case you missed it, Genarlow Wilson is now a true authentic African American hero. Most recently seen keeping company with politicians, preachers and potential presidents at Ebenezer Baptist Church as part of the MLK holiday festivities. To Mr. Wilson’s champions, I trust you won’t quarrel with this tiny little footnote in the Genarlow Wilson Redemption Story Arc.
Genarlow Wilson Redemption Story Arc (GWRSA)
You might be compelled to shed a tear or two after reading the flurry of Genarlow Wilson Redemption stories flooding newspapers and TV newscasts as Genarlow Wison, "the boy genius" (because after all he had a 3.943 GPA) headed off to Morehouse on a full scholarship provided by the Tom Joyner Foundation. HOWEVER, before you get all caught up in the Genarlow Wilson Redemption Story Arc , may I inject something that the Genarlwo Wilson Redemption Story Arc can't bear the burden of... THE TRUTH!
Now Genarlow Wilson Redemption Arc revisionists would have you believe that Genarlow Wilson was just a young man doing what young men do when he got sent to prison for ten years. They would have you believe that Mr. Wilson was making out with his 15-year-old girlfriend all by their lonesome when the law came in and ripped the young Romeo from the loving "arms"/”lips” of his beloved Juliet and tossed the star crossed lover in the clank for 10 years because he was a Black boy engaged in normal teenage indiscretions. He was a student athlete and honors student with a 3.9309720943 GPA.
Consent? Who needs consent?
Now Genarlow Wilson's champions love to talk about the "willing" or "consensual" 15 year-old girl. In fact you cannot read a single Genarlow Wilson Redemption Story without the word “consensual ” being listed. WHY? Well because consent matters in the Genarlow Wilson Redemption Story Arc and since there was no legal consent and for one of Mr. Wilson’s victims no actual consent, the GWRSA has just decided to inject some into the GWRSA because this heroic tale kind of sucks if there wasn’t consent.
"When you hear that it's 10 years for consensual oral sex for two kids, you go, 'That doesn't sound right,'" says Senator Johnson. Consent is a legal term with legal meaning and legal consequences. A 15-year-old can't consent to having her ears pierced let alone having sex in the eyes of the laws of MANY states- So my question is when it comes to young Black girls, what exactly is the age of consent the minds of the GWRSA proponents? 14, 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7? I mean if I read one more blog refer to what went on in that room as typical teenage behavior, I'm going to have to call Chris Hansen on the Black blogosphere.
What’s Missing From the GWRSA?
But moving past the annoying practice of trying to confer "consent" where the law says there can be none, I challenge you to find even one mention of a 17 year-old girl anywhere in the Genarlow Wilson Redemption Story Arc.
What 17 year old? Oh you haven't heard about her? Oh that's riiiight. The 17-year old and what Mr. Wilson did to her kinda mess up that whole Romeo and Juliet storyline because running a train doesn't really fit the Genarlow Wilson Redemption Arc plot line. She's hard to find because the revisionists have excised the 17 year-old's gang rape from the Genarlow Wilson Redemption Story arc:
The videotape was "Exhibit A" because it depicts a horrific crime: a gang rape of a semi-conscious, 17-year-old girl, followed by a bizarre display of sexual precociousness by a 15-year-old girl. That's the truth recorded by Genarlow and his friends that fateful night. I suspect that is also why Ms. Bernstein hated it whenever McDade used it to rebut her version of Genarlow's crime.
No matter how much (two glasses of Cognac) the 17-year-old may have had to drink, no matter how much she may have flirted with those boys, she did not consent to having sex with all of them, one right after the other. Yet it never occurred to the "smart" and "spiritual" Genarlow to say, "Stop it. We should not be doing this." No. Genarlow watched, waited and gladly took his turn. When they were through raping her, Genarlow helped his friends drag the comatose victim to the bathroom. They opened the door, pushed her in, watched as she fell to the floor and closed the door. Oh yes my people. There is a tape. A tape that the boy genius left behind (BRILLIANT !). You can't see the same tape because it is child pornography, a minor detail, the authors and champions of the Genarlow Wilson Story arc want you to forget because if the tape is child pornography, then that would make those who made the tape???? Yeah exactly. Inconvenient truth creeping in again.

Now " the boy genius' "champions will argue that an alleged abuse of prosecutor discretion, Georgia's convoluted and contradictory statutes which provided for ten years for oral sex while barely a year for intercourse make the actual facts of what went down in that Douglasville, GA hotel room irrelevant. I disagree.
Color of Change refers to what happened in that room as a "victimless crime" Oh really? Is that what you call a 15 year old being preyed on by older boys who know better? So Statutory rape is victimless?
Seventeen percent of the U.S. teen population is African American,Now I got money that says that those one in ten- (mmm hmmm that means if you pull ten teen girls off the street in DC one of them will be HIV positive- yes DC's stats are approaching those in several sub-Saharan countries)- As I was saying...I've got money that says those one in ten Black girls were infected by their older "boy friends" who knew better. Because they are teen girls who lack any semblance of good judgment when it comes to matters of the "heart" (honey love ain't got nothing to do with it)- they are less likely to pause and demand from these older predatory men and boys the use of any kind of protection because if the older teen or man cared about her they couldn't be having sex with a child in the first place. Statutory Rape is not a victimless crime. Older men and boys preying on teenage girls is not a victimless crime. While sex may merely be a form of extremely enjoyable calisthenics for older men and boys, the consequences for teenage girls can be severe even deadly. Victimless crime my arse.

Y'all can engage in revisionist history if you want to. Removing all mention of the inconvenient details of the videotape "the boy genius" and his buddies shot. You can engage in revisionist history acting as if "the boy genius"could not have known that 15 will get you 20 (or in his case 10). You can try to completely erase all mention of the 17-year-old from your Genarlow Wilson Redemption Story Arc. You can even lie and say the 15 year old girl was Wilson's girlfriend although I challenge you to find a 17 year old boy that will pass his "girlfriend" around to his five buddies. So revel in your revisionist history where you basically write the harm suffered by the two girls in that room away. You have been very successful.
Imagine how the 17-year-old must feel. Here she is- she's been gang raped. She goes through with prosecutions just like we're told to. What happens to her? She gets excised from history because the Genarlow Wilson Redemption Story arc only works if we forget what he did. The Genarlow Wilson Redemption Story Arc only works if was keep all the focus on "the boy genius" and never ask “what about the girls?"
So congrats Genarlow Wilson... you're a living breathing embodiment of the Black American Dream. Abuse black woman and girls ... get ahead. Rape and exploit young Black girls, get an award from the NAACP... Hmmm where have I heard THAT before? I guess the NAACP is keeping to its MISSION ("NAACP Contacts WADO- National Office Won't Be Speaking Out On Dunbar Village- Addressing Hate Crimes Against Black Women Not 'Mission'"
Scholarships For Everybody!

Now several of Mr. Wilson' compadres are being released as well – So I am assuming that Mr. Joyner is going to be handing out scholarships to those "innocent" young lads as well. I mean they were in that room that night too. They were "victims" of that pesky statutory rape law as well.
Since When Did Being Stupid and Predatory Turn You Into a “Victim”?
So all the boys who had the misfortune of stumbling into a hotel room on New Years Eve, accidentally bringing drugs and booze, tripping and accidentally performing sex acts on the body of an unconscious Black girl, and inadvertently dragging her to a bathroom and dumping her on the floor when they got through with her- yeah those boys meet the qualifications for the Tom Joyner Foundation Statutory Rapist Scholarshipolooza (TJFSRS)... But let me assure you that the ONLY people guaranteed NOT to get a full ride from the Tom Joyner Foundation will be the two girls who were in that room.
They're Black girls after all...who cares about them? Their families don't care-who lets their 15 yer old and 17 year old run around on new years eve. The law doesn't care. The “community” doesn’t care.
Morehouse President Dr. Robert M. Franklin welcomed Wilson to the campus, known for distinguished alumni, such as the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. filmmaker Spike Lee and former U.S. Surgeon General Dr. David Satcher.I wish "the boy genius" all the best. If he is going to be running around out here in the land of the free, give him a good education so he can earn a living ( I predict a book any day now). I just hope that when he finally grows up that he treats the other girls and women with the same decency and respect that he claims to have for his mother and younger sister.

REFUSE TO BE SILENT! If you get time today... inquire into who much Tom Joyner has set aside for the two young women who were in that hotel room that night. Mr. Wilson isn't the only one whose life was destroyed... after all, "the boy genius" had the "community" wrapping their arms around him...the girls were thrown over the side of the ship because the Genarlow Wilson Redemption Story couldn't bear the weight of their memory.

Genarlow Wilson is no Hero. Being stupid and predatory does not make you a hero. Being caught up in a conflicting statutory framework doesn't make you heroic. A hero is a young Black girl that can manage to wake up in the morning and keep breathing knowing that folks are holding her rapist on their shoulders and handing him out full scholarships, plaques, and invitations to sit beside politicians, preachers, and presidents.
Let that marinate!
